A Cultural Tour Of Estepona
The centre of Estepona, in particular the old quarter is considered to be one of the most charming sights on the Costa del Sol. The traditional Andalucian architecture and essence, pedestrian streets and intermittent sprinklings of modernity make for a unique visit. Here are some of the places you should not miss when doing a cultural tour of Estepona.
The Estepona Archaeological Museum
The Estepona Archaeological Museum is hosted in a building constructed in the 19th century on top of a well belonging to a Muslim era tower. It was home to the Town Hall from 1853, when it was acquired by the municipal government, until 2011. The rich legacy you can immerse yourself in comes from private collections and from archaeological interventions made in recent decades. The oldest exposed remains date all the way back to Paleolithic times and consist of a series of stone carved utensils. You can also see evidence of Neolithic times and the Copper and Bronze Ages, such as pottery, stone carved utensils and polished stone axes.
The Estepona Murals Route
This is one of the cultural tours in Estepona that absolutely should not be missed. Walk through all of different neighbourhoods and areas, where the buildings are painted with high quality, original works of art. It not only makes for a fun day out with the kids, but it will also give you some perfect photo opportunities to remind you of your visit to Estepona.

St Mary Of Los Remedios Church
This pretty 18th century church was used from 1725 to 1766 as a convent for the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order. It was abandoned in 1835 by the friars as a result of the Disentailment Law. As you approach the main entrance you can feast your eyes on a delightful mix of Rococo stylistic features and others that appear to come from Spanish American colonial architecture. Its interior is spread out over three naves with vaulted ceilings and a dome over the crossing and images from several of the relics that are carried during the “Semana Santa” or Holy Week processions can be seen.
El Cristo Beach
This lovely cove with fine sand is ideal for a visit with the kids, since it has a low tide that comes up to your knees even when you’re well into the sea and there are no rocks or stones. It has a number of chiringuitos and hammock areas, though it you’re looking for peace and quiet, the beach does get very busy in the summer at the weekend.
