August in Spain. You’d be quite forgiven for thinking that the country had closed down. It’s true that the Spanish love their free time, and August is the annual summer holiday. The whole country packs a picnic and heads off to the beach, So, forget about those little jobs that need doing around the house, because the tradesman is wearing his Speedo swimwear and eating his mother’s Paella at a beach near you. Instead, pack your own beachwear and join him. Or, choose one of the festivals and ferías happening during August. They’re all within easy reach if you have a home on the Costa del Sol.

Terral Festival

Mainly held in the Cervantes Theatre, once the Terral Festival begins, it’s a sign that summer has officially started in Málaga, so down tools and dress up with the best of them. It’s a season of concerts, and you can still catch James Rhodes, the British pianist, on Monday 7th August.

Málaga Fair/Fería de Málaga

The Málaga Fair – Feria de Málaga – is a hugely popular event. Be prepared for crowds, as a couple of million visitors attend the fair, which is held between the downtown area of Málaga during the day, and then on to the night fair at Cortijo de Torres. The fair takes place from the 12th to the 19th of August. Enjoy mingling with the crowds, and the tasty selection of food and drink on offer. The night fair also includes some stomach-churning rides, which of course the kids will love!

Starlite Gala

The Starlite Gala continues into August with its star studded performances and stellar line-up. Dress up and head out with the stylish Marbella crowd. Antequera Royal August Fair

A festival of National Touristic Interest, the Royal August Fair is held annually in Antequera. Enjoy concerts, food and wine tasting, music. A fireworks finale will bring the weekend of revelry to a close, and it all happens over the period of 17th to the 21st of August.
