The Costa Del Sol region of Spain is famous for its beautiful beaches, canyons, and fun outdoor activities for kids. If you’ve never been here before, then it can be difficult to know where to start.
Check out this list of great ways to spend time in the sun in Costa Del Sol and have the vacation of your dreams.
1. Visit the Waterparks
Costa del Sol has a few different waterparks, but the largest is Aqualand Torremolinos. There you can enjoy the day on exhilarating water slides. Don’t forget to try out the Kamikazee, one of the highest water slides in Europe.
Another water park that is great is Aquamijas. It’s a bit smaller than Aqualand, but it’s got a great family friendly selection so slides and is a little bit less expensive as well.
2. Ride on a Zipline
If you and your children are looking for an adrenaline rush, then you can enjoy sailing through the treetops of Marbella with Aventura Amazonia. There they have twenty different zip lines on six different circuits.
The longest treetop zip line in Andalucia is 240 meters and length and gives you a great opportunity to see the Costa del Sol region from its height.
Note: Children who are under seven years of age will have to participate in adventures in a special area of the park for their safety. The ziplines in the main part of the park are not intended for small children.
3. Go Dolphin and Whale Watching
Seeing dolphins and whales in their natural habitat is a beautiful experience for children. You have several options for how you want to go about it.
One of the most popular is taking a boat charter out on an excursion. They will take you out for the day and show you the best places to find the animals.
For extra fun, try to find a boat that has a glass bottom. Or if you rented a car, then you can drive to Tarifa on the Atlantic coast. After a bit of a drive, you will be able to see dolphins and whales guaranteed.
4. Rent a Pedalo for Outdoor Activities for Kids
If you don’t know what a pedalo is, it’s the technical term for the small boats that you can take out and pedal for a half hour or an hour at parks or beaches.
Newer models of pedalos offer small slides on the back that allow kids to slide out into the sea. Pedalos are incredibly popular and you will be able to find them at all of the most popular beaches in the area. You also could rent kayaks, jet skis, or just fun inflatables to play on in the water.
5. Go Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is the kind of activity that involves planning. In order to do it, you will need to get a scuba diving license. These can be obtained through beginner classes taught at locations around the city. The certification will be good at anywhere else you travel with your children in the future, as they’re international.
If you don’t want to take the time to get scuba diving lessons, then you can always go snorkeling instead. Then after a long day, you can head to one of the great restaurants in Benahavis.
6. Take a Ride on the Benalmadena Cable Car
If you really want to see stunning views, then you have to take a trip to Benalmadena’s Monte Calamorro using the cable car. At the top, you’ll be able to follow pathways and spot spectacular birds of prey.
In order to catch the cable car, you will need to go to the Tivoli World parking Area located in Arroyo de la Miel.
7. Ride the Tourist Train While You’re in Benalmadena
Also while you are in Benalmadena, you can ride the tourist train that takes you on a forty-five-minute tour of Fuengirola’s most popular attractions. It’s great to do the train and cable car together for a scenic journey.
8. Make Your Own Chocolate at Mayan Monkey Mijas
If it’s a rainy day and your kids like sweets, then they will love visiting Mayan Monkey Mijas, the world’s smallest chocolate factory. It’s located in the village of Mijas. There you will learn weird and fascinating facts about chocolate. You’ll also be able to take a ten-minute tour of their factory.
Then at the end of the tour, you can make your own chocolate bar from dark or white chocolate using whatever topping you want. To take part in the workshop, you’ll need to book it in advance.
9. Go Canyoning
Canyoning is a sport where you use different techniques like walking, climbing, swimming, and sliding, to get through canyons. It’s a challenging way to spend the day in Marbella.
Benhavis has canyons with natural ponds where you can go swimming and enjoy the water for hours at a time. Large portions of the canyons are under shade so you don’t have to worry about being out in the hot sun all day like at the beach.
10. Check Out Paseo Maritimo in Marbella
Paseo Maritimo is a very pleasant boardwalk where you can check out cafes and walk along the water. It’s a great place to spend the day as a family or visit for a night out.
You’ll love the long seafront promenade and street vendors as well as the opportunity for people watching.
