San Pedro Alcantara is technically a part of Marbella, but with a totally different atmosphere. The stunning paseo comes alive in the warmer months filled with locals and tourists alike, enjoying their lunch or an afternoon drinks at one of the many beachside chiringuitos that are dotted at the waters edge.
San Pedro, Marbella is a charming place, technically it is a village, but a village with residential areas, boutiques and several gastro bars. The town center, which was once a traditional Andalusian pueblo still has a huge amount of character with it’s cobbled streets and Spanish townhouses, but it is fast becoming the place to be amongst expats and tourists alike.
Location, Location, Location!
San Pedro Alcantara really is ideally situated. It is just a twenty minute walk along the beach to Puerto Banus, or four minutes by car and in just 10 minutes drive, you are in the center of Marbella. The other advantage of the location, is that at the top of San Pedro, where the Ronda road begins, you can get straight onto the tollroad which will take you to Malaga Airport, Calahonda or Elviria quickly and easily. The summer of 2016 is set to be the busiest the Costa del Sol has seen since before the property crisis of 2007, when the wait for a taxi in the evening was around 30-45 minutes. San Pedro has several taxi ranks and a bus which will take you straight to Puerto Banus, Marbella and further afield meaning you won’t have to waste your evening waiting on a cab.
What Makes It Different?
In San Pedro, you do not experience such extreme glamour or extravagance as you would when looking at villas on the Golden Mile, although there are developments in nearby Guadalmina with large sumptuous villas, or renowned golf courses such as Real Club Guadalmina. What prevails is the atmosphere of a village, a small town, with its typical central square, church, pedestrian streets, and the flavor of a special welcoming place.
Let’s Talk About Food
When planning a holiday, the last thing you want to do is think about cooking every day. Therefore, local restaurants and bars play a big part in deciding where to buy a holiday home. San Pedro has a wide variety of gastronomy on offer. Along the new boulevard you will find modern international restaurants- everything from trendy tapas, to steakhouses and Noodle bars. El Ancla, which is nestled on the beach is famous for it’s fish and just a short walk away you will find Macauu beach club where you can enjoy a delicious cocktail, or a fresh salad. The town centre is fast becoming reminiscent of New York’s SOHO, with it’s deli’s, organic restaurants and wine bars. San Pedro also has several large supermarkets, speciality Asian food stores and of course, health shops.
