Spain Voted The Best Holiday Destination In The World

by | Aug 25, 2016 | Spain |

Sun Seeking British tourists have voted Spain, in particular resorts like the Costa del Sol, to be the best holiday destination in the world. A recent survey of 1,000 Brits put Spain in first position in the ‘best overall’ category, garnering 19% of the vote. Italy was a close second with 15% and France,  was third with 9% even though it is actually the most visited country.

This year the popular Spanish tourist destinations like Marbella have seen more visitors than ever before as well as soaring temperatures that have reached 40 degrees in mid August. Spain also stole the limelight for the “best night out” category, with one in four young tourists naming it “the best place to party in the whole of Europe.” Spain also won the ‘friendliest locals’ and ‘best beaches’ categories. The only category it did not win was best food, where it came second place to Italy, who won 25% of the vote.

Why Spain?

Spain has a climate which is the envy of the rest of northern Europe, has more than 6,000 kilometres of stunning coastline, world class beaches and a vibrant colourful culture. With such virtues it is easy to see why holidaymakers and visitors return to Spain time and time again. Millions of visitors each year are drawn in by the variety of resorts, city destinations and cultural activities to see and explore. A holiday in Spain offers something for all the family, from relaxing beach holidays to more energetic outdoor activity holidays. Cultural Spain is an absolute must-do for people looking to discover Moorish and Roman art and architecture or the famous master pieces created by Picasso and Juan Miro. Granada and Cordoba in Andalucia boast two wonderful Arab palaces, as well as Malaga nearby the ever popular Marbella.

Why Is Marbella So Popular Amongst Holidaymakers?

Marbella is a tourist destination that really has it all. Stunning beaches, a wonderful micro-climate and of course, some fantastic restaurants and bars. Aside from the aforementioned points, Marbella has a large expat community making it appealing for visitors who don´t want to feel as though they are too far from home. Marbella is not a small sleepy fishing village – it’s a large, cosmopolitan, bustling town and has a good mix of old town, beach, culture and a good mixture of ages and nationalities. Marbella itself is best known for the old town and more low-key socialising, whereas Puerto Banus is much more lively. Many visitors to Marbella go on to purchase a holiday home in the area- either in nearby Estepona, the New Golden mile or in Marbella itself. One of the main advantages that the city has that encourages visitors to return year after year, is that fact that everybody speaks English, therefore language barriers are not an issue when it comes to everyday tasks or socializing.
