Making a move to Spain is an easy decision for many. The quality of a relaxed and laid-back lifestyle, hours of sunshine, and mild winters, make it just too difficult to resist. Deciding on a property can be a little overwhelming. You may have already made up your mind that a move to Andalusia is the right one. The Costa del Sol is familiar to many, made up of sunny holidays, and magical memories.
Relocation, relocation, relocation
The sunshine coast covers a lot of ground. Stretching its long sandy fingers across southern Spain. The city of Málaga is the capital, and most likely for the airport where you will land and get your first glimpse of the area, and feel the warm breeze as you step from the plane. For a holiday, the Costa del Sol is pretty unbeatable. But, for a move south, it’s the best location for that longed-for and planned relocation! Perhaps it’s time in your life for a new dawn, a new day, a different view?
A place in the sun
Finding your place in the sun requires a bit of homework. What part of the Costa del Sol is your favourite spot? You might have to take into account schools, local activities, whether you want a concentration of like-minded expats, or ease of access to the road network, public transport, and the airport. There are 150 kms of prime location to choose from, so it’s best to split the Costa del Sol up geographically, and narrow your choices down to something more manageable.
Access all areas of the sunshine coast
To view properties along the Costa del Sol, consider shortlisting the ones that catch your eye, and then breaking them down into three separate areas, eastern, western and central. Go east as far as Nerja for the eastern limits, just before the Granada border at Almunecar. This side tends to be quieter, and more suited to retired buyers. For a more popular area, consider the central area of the coastline, between Marbella and Malaga. Resorts you may already be familiar with like Torremolinos and Mijas Costa. A great choice if you are buying a property to let it out for holiday use. The western end of the Costa del Sol is where the most lucrative investments may be made, with upmarket resorts such as Marbella and the bustling port of Puerto Banus, beloved by the celebrity set. Here, you’ll also discover more traditional resorts such as Estepona, or beautiful Benahavis, tucked back into the hills with sea views.
Consider which area you wish to live in, and the reasons why. It might be for a busy social life, proximity to cultural activities in Málaga, a laid back family life, or just somewhere to enjoy better weather and a golden retirement close to the calm Mediterranean sea.
