With Valentines day just around the corner, it´s time to get planning where you will take that special someone for a romantic date. Marbella is filled with restaurants of every kind to suit every budget, but many expats who live here are always in search of low key restaurants offering excellent food for reasonable prices, away from the sometimes pretentious atmosphere of Puerto Banus. Here is our pick of the top 5 romantic restaurants in Marbella.
Nestled in the hills overlooking Nueva Andalucia, with stunning views of the coastline, Magna Cafe is an incredible place to celebrate any occasion. The food is to die for, and the prices, whilst not the cheapest on the coast, can be reasonable if you don’t overdo it on the vino. Oftentimes at weekends, they have live music here only adding to the stunning ambience that already exists. Valentines day can get extremely busy at Magna Cafe, so to avoid disappointment be sure to make your reservation as soon as possible.
The Beach House
This is very much an “insiders” restaurant — so well hidden and off the beaten track that the clientele is mainly expatriate Brits and regular visitors to Marbella. Its also arguably the most romantic restaurant on the coast. The Beach House can be found within close proximity to Elviria, so taking a cab there and back is essential, unless you have a designated driver. The prices are great, but not as good as the delicious food and romantic beachfront atmosphere that you will find here.
This hidden gem is set in the trendy part of San Pedro de Alcantara. 1870 takes gastro cuisine to a whole new level, in a small restaurant where privacy is guaranteed. The food whilst delicious, can be rich- so if post dinner drinks are on the cards, be sure to bear this in mind! It is never usually overcrowded at 1870, but being a universal anniversary, it’s best to book well ahead of time.
El Lago is one of the few restaurants in the area to have received a Michelin star for its outstanding service and quality of food. The prices are more expensive than the average restaurant in Marbella, but then again, so is the experience! There is nothing more romantic than sharing a romantic evening meal basking in the moonlight that shines onto the lake below.
If you are visiting Marbella for a long Valentine’s weekend, then be sure to visit Paco Jimenez set in the famous Orange Square in Marbella Old Town. This restaurant offers very attentive service and nicely presented dishes, paired with its romantic rustic setting in the most nostalgic square of Marbella. Paco Jimenez is situated above an art gallery and can be somewhat confusing to find, but search for the art gallery on the Orange square, walk into the gallery and go upstairs and there you will find Paco Jimenez. It is advisable to book a table since there are only a limited amount of tables available, which makes the restaurant very cosy and intimate- perfect for a romantic night on the tiles!
