The town of Estepona, situated approximately 20 minutes west of Marbella, is considered to be one of the most charming towns on the Costa del Sol. Marbella’s lesser known little sister, Estepona, is made up of an area of 137km2 which is bordered by a stunning mountain range, protecting the town from extreme temperatures and contributing to the impressive year round micro climate.
Despite struggling in recent years, Estepona is definitely one area to watch, when considering buying your holiday home in the Marbella area. The pretty, narrow streets of the old town, have recently been spruced up with new pavements, whitewashed walls and each street has it´s own theme, complete with colour coordinated flowes and plant pots!. Mural artists have been invited by the municipality, to display their artistic talent on some of the larger apartment buildings, which now boast vibrant images of fishing, caricatures and creative building facades. The public parks in the town center have also been re-landscaped and are now kitted out with water features and fountains, in particular Parque del Carmen, with its sensor activated waterfall which you can walk under!
The stunning beaches stretching from the Puerto Deportivo, through the town centre paseo and on towards Marbella along the New Golden Mile have always attracted visitors due to the cleanliness of the sand and water. They are impeccably maintained during the summer months and lined with chiringuitos and fancier restaurants.
Estepona is now drawing visitors into its centre with two new cultural installations: The new Teatro Felipe VI, which was opened to the Public in March 2015 and is dedicated to promoting the local arts scene. It’s spacious auditorium, with a capacity of 600 people, has already welcomed local dancer Luisa Palicio and The Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra to it’s stage.
The local town council has actionable plans to build new shopping centres, in order to attract more investment to the area and is constantly working to extend the beach promenade eastwards from the town centre, so that ultimately it will be possible to walk through the entire municipality along its 20 kilometre or so of coastline. Several new developments have successfully sold out in Estepona and 2016 will mark the start of construction of the Crystal Lagoon project, which will be a development of stunning new build apartments, nestled on their very own artificial lagoon!
There’s no doubt that Estepona is very much an up and coming area with regards to property investment on the Costa del Sol, with a very exciting future for holidaymakers and residents alike
