Situated just a few kilometres east of Marbella’s town centre, Elviria is often credited as having some of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol and the best beach clubs, such as Nikki Beach. It is also a popular destination for those looking to relocate permanently or would like to buy a Spanish holiday home. The coveted Costa del Sol lifestyle can be realised in and around Elviria, with its pretty avenues of luxury villas and upmarket developments of attractive apartments.
What’s Elviria Like?
Located a short drive from Calahonda to the west and 15 minutes from Marbella town centre to the east, the area has a relaxed cosmopolitan feel, mainly due to the large number of expats. It is essentially a purpose built residential urbanisation which also incorporates swathes of countryside and golf courses. It is also peaceful and safe, making it a magnet for families with children of all ages. And although there is no ‘town centre’ as such, there are plenty of restaurants shops, bars and charming beachside ‘chiringuitos’. What really sets this area apart is the high proportion of quality property and wonderful flat sandy beaches. Like most of the urbanizations on the Costa del Sol, Elviria is divided by the coast road into beachside and mountainside, however, you are never very far from some of the finest beaches on the coast. It also has a certain amount of glitz as the location of the world renowned Nikki Beach and the 5-star Don Carlos Hotel. It’s also very handy for getting to Malaga airport, which can be reached in just 25 minutes either via the toll road, or the scenic coast road.
If you’re staying in Elviria, you may have already noticed that it is not a central hub for shopping, aside from supermarkets and Spanish boutiques. But, don’t forget the major shopping centers that are only a few minutes away. There is also a local fruit and vegetable market held in the area every Friday. As one can find along most beaches on the Costa del Sol, the North African “looky looky” men are out in abundance during the warmer months. The enthusiastic salesmen sell replica designer bags, sunglasses and watches. Make sure you bargain with them, as their initial asking price is usually high. If you’re looking for a more up-market shopping experience, world renowned Puerto Banús and La Cañada shopping centre, which has almost every shop you could want for, are only a short journey away.
Elviria is home to the popular michelin star restaurant El Lago, which makes for a night of fine dining combined with breathtaking scenery. There are also several other restaurants in the area to suit all tastes, including local takeaways such as Chinese, Indian and more. Nearby, there is even a Korean Barbecue restaurant which is perfect for entertaining the kids whilst devouring some tender Kobe beef! You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to Gastronomy in Elviria.
Elviria has some of the best golf courses in southern Spain, including the Santa Maria Golf Club which boasts an 18-hole course set in a wonderful pinewood and oak forest. If you fancy a game of tennis visit El Casco Tennis Club, located just off the A7 at the entrance to the urbanization. One of the most fun activities available in this area is the Buggy Safari – an exciting day the whole family will remember! A certified tour guide takes buggy riders off road to visit Andalucía’s lush landscape with breathtaking views of the Med.
